It all started with better chicken
From 1959 to 2021, we spent our time making our chicken great rather than telling everyone how great it was. Six things set it apart, from the farm to the customer’s counter.
The chicken itself
We were one of the first poultry producers in Ontario to air chill our chicken instead of water chilling it, which meant better flavour and texture with no added water weight. Our birds were grain fed with no animal by-products, and every order went from our farm to market as quickly as possible.
Raised the way our customers asked
From 1994 until the sale in 2021 we processed certified organic chicken. We were among the first to raise 100% antibiotic free chicken, and for over 27 years we offered certified hand-slaughtered halal chicken. Pet owners and pet food businesses could also buy raw pet food cuts.
Built to get it to market
Every customer was treated like our #1 customer, whether they owned a small independent butcher shop, ran a food service outlet or represented a large grocery chain. We offered fresh and further processing, custom packaging and private label production for retailers’ own brands.
Standards you could check
Our federally inspected facilities in Bradford, Ontario and Drummondville, Quebec met all federal regulations and health and safety standards. All chicken was raised under Chicken Farmers of Canada’s on-farm food safety and assurance program and Animal Welfare program, and our plants held independent food safety, organic and halal certifications.
A family farm
Tony and Mary Cericola founded Cericola Farms in Bradford in 1959, selling fresh eggs and chickens door-to-door to Toronto markets. Mary and her sons, Anthony and Amedeo, carried on their values and ran the business until its sale.
Rooted in Bradford
In 2018 Cericola Farms received the South Simcoe Business Excellence Award in the Agricultural category. We were proud to sponsor local events in support of our farmers, including Bradford Carrot Fest and the Holland Marsh Soupfest.
